Cowan Catering Management – Food Safety Training, Auditing & Management

Cowan Catering Management was started in 2014 for catering and retail businesses in the West Midlands who needed food Safety training and advice, and who wanted to improve their food hygiene ratings.

I am Robert Cowan and have over 30 years in experience in hospitality and catering. Restaurants, quick service restaurants, cafes, fish & chip shops, coffee and dessert shops, chicken shops – all at management level. Running busy restaurants, as an Area Manager for a Multi National, as an Owner Operator or managing smaller units, there is little I haven’t experienced in the catering sector.

I have been training teams in Food Hygiene & Safety, Customer Service, Health & Safety and Hospitality Management for decades, and now with a small but growing team we cover all of the Midlands.

We can provide training in different languages, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and others.


We are experienced in providing Food Safety Advice and Food Safety Auditing and have helped many businesses improve their Food Safety Standards and procedures, helping to implement HACCP systems and the teams develop a Food Safety culture. Important to the success of any food business are your Food Standards Hygiene Ratings (or stars), and we can conduct a Food Safety Audit of your operation and give a full report of how you can get a better rating. Whether you are starting a food business, want help with regulation and legislation, or want to improve your existing business, we can help.


We keep up to date with changes in food law, regulation & legislation, monitor food alerts and study research reports to make sure all our advice is up to date.

We have developed and are about to launch an exciting new product, an anti-bacterial epoxy coating called Hygiene Silverguard. This has been developed for the touch points around commercial kitchens which are handled often, but are not cleaned as often (e.g. door handles, taps, fridge handles etc.) The coating stops bacteria from multiplying and is effective for as long as the coating remains.
